JOB DESCRIPTION

A Cover Supervisor is an educational professional who is responsible for supervising and managing classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher. This role involves ensuring that students stay on task, providing support for learning activities, and maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic qualifications may be required by some employers, although entry is possible with relevant experience (possibly on a voluntary basis) alone. NVQs at Level 2 and 3 qualifications are available. DBS clearance is mandatory.

TASKS

  • Supervise and manage classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher..
  • Ensure a safe and positive learning environment for students..
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the absent teacher and effectively communicate instructions to students..
  • Assist students in understanding and completing assigned tasks..
  • Manage classroom behaviour and discipline in accordance with school policies..
  • Address and resolve behavioural issues, promoting a positive learning atmosphere..
  • Provide support to students in their learning activities..
  • Answer questions and offer assistance with classwork as needed..
  • Ensure that all required materials and resources are accessible for the duration of the lesson..
  • Maintain an organized and tidy classroom environment..
  • Take attendance and report it to the school administration as per school procedures..
  • Keep records of any incidents or noteworthy occurrences during the class..
  • Communicate effectively with school staff regarding any issues or concerns..
  • Relay important information to the regular teacher upon their return..
  • Be adaptable to various subjects and age groups, as Cover Supervisors may be assigned to different classes..
  • Follow school emergency procedures and protocols in case of fire drills or other situations..
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times..
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities provided by the school..
  • Stay informed about educational practices and school policies..
